Artist's Description

This is my portrait of Alfredo Arreguín. In honor of his forty-year legacy of artwork in the Pacific Northwest, Mexico, and around the world, this work offers a dreamscape with the master artist as the resident giant. The tools of his trade are depicted within a fractal pattern, as painters’ boxes with palettes and brushes are transformed into the myriad natural forms and Mesoamerican images found in his finished works.
This piece references many subjects from the master’s work—Maya and Aztec icons, the jungle with its beasts, and even the Pacific Northwest with its orcas and Tahoma (Mt. Rainier). Three-dimensional objects into patterns, which again transform into three dimensions, all lifted off the flat surface to honor Alfredo Arreguín’s imagination and artistic power to mesmerize.

About Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson as the founding editor of Cave Moon Press, started helping poets with book design, illustration and artwork ten years ago.
